Public Anger Swells After Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Beadbi by Sirsa Cultists
CHANDIGARH, PUNJAB - At least two Sikhs were were killed and scores injured on Wednesday in bloody clashes between Sikhs protesting against the desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji and police near Kotkapura town in Punjab’s Faridkot district.
Sources said police resorting to gunfire in Behbal Kalan area near Kotkapura, leading to the death of two people and injuries to several others.
Police used batons and water cannons and even fired in the air to disperse hundreds of protesters hurling bricks, stones and other things at the police.
A clash took place in the main square of Kotkapura town, 230km from here, when police tried to arrest the leaders of the protesters who attempted to block the highways towards Moga and Bathinda towns.
Most of the injured, included protesters and around 30 police officials, were taken to hospitals for treatment.
Tension mounted in Kotkapura area on Monday after over 100 pages of Guru Granth Sahib Ji were found scattered in a street near a gurdwara.
Areas around Kotkapura remained tense on Wednesday morning after a series of messages on social media regarding the desecration.
Protesters clashed with police in Buttar Kalan village of Moga district on Tuesday, leaving many injured. Nearly 200 protesters were rounded up in Kotkapura on Tuesday but were released later.
Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha and former chief minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday strongly condemned the deaths of two people in alleged police firing near Kotkapura.
“Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has virtually lost control over things and the state is drifting towards anarchy,” Amarinder said.

ਫ਼ਰੀਦਕੋਟ, 14 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ- ਫ਼ਰੀਦਕੋਟ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਬਰਗਾੜੀ ਤੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਦਸਵੇਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਮਿਲੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਪੱਤਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰੋਸ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਵੱਧ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਅੱਜ ਤੀਸਰੇ ਦਿਨ ਪਿੰਡ ਬਹਿਬਲ ਕਲਾਂ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਫਾਇਰਿੰਗ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਦੋ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਮਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਿੰਡ ਸਰਾਂਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਿੰਡ ਨਿਮਾਮੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹਨ ਇਸ ਘਟਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ 21 ਸਾਲਾ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਜ਼ਖ਼ਮੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਅਤੇ ਪੱਟ ‘ਤੇ ਗੋਲੀ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੈ। ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ 200 ਤੋਂ ਉਪਰ ਫਾਇਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਰੋਸ ਵਿਚ ਆਏ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੜਕ ਤੇ ਖੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਗੱਡੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਲਗਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਸੁਭਾ 6: 30 ਵਜੇ ਕੋਟਕਪੂਰਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਤਣਾਅ ਪੂਰਨ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਜਦੋਂ ਬੱਤੀਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਚੌਂਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਰੋਸ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੰਗਤ ਅਤੇ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਆਪਸ ਵਿਚ ਹੱਥੋ ਪਾਈ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਹਲਕਾ ਲਾਠੀਚਾਰਜ ਕਰਨਾ ਪਿਆ ਫੇਰ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਗੜਦਿਆਂ ਦੇਖਦੇ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੋਲੀ ਚਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਦੋਵਾਂ ਧਿਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਝਗੜੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ 4 ਦਰਜਨ ਦੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਸਿੰਘ ਜ਼ਖਮੀ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ 15-20 ਦੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਕਰਮੀਂ। ਪਿੰਡ ਪੰਜਗਰਾਈਂ ਕਲਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਤਣਾਅ ਪੂਰਨ ਬਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਇਕੱਠ ਨੂੰ ਖਦੇੜਨ ਲਈ ਹਵਾਈ ਫਾਇਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਣਾਅ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੈ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਦੇ ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਕੋਟਕਪੂਰਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਹਾਲਤਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਰੱਖ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
