BHINDER KALAN, MOGA (KP) – Sant Giani Mohan Singh Ji, the saintly centenarian head of the Bhindra Samperdai, has attained Akal Chalana, leaving his mortal body to merge with Akal Purakh Sahib. The revered Giani Ji headed the religious seminary (Taksal) for over half a century.

Giani Mohan Singh Ji took charge of the Moga-Ferozepur based Samperdai in 1969 after Sant Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji Bhindranwale and Sant Giani Sunder Singh Ji Bhindranwale. Giani Mohan Singh Ji, often referred to as simply “Baba Mohan Singh”, was venerated by the Sikh community for his humble, reserved yet straightforward demeanor.

He was a true saint who tirelessly spread the message of Gurmat through Gurbani katha and santhiya. He was estimable for adamantly keeping his distance from politicians and grandstanders during his 51 years of service at Gurdwara Akhand Parkash Sahib, the headquarters of the Samperdai.

BACKGROUND

Giani Mohan Singh Ji was born on March 26th, 1919 (Chet 13, Bikrami 1976) at a village in Sargodha, East Punjab (now in Pakistan) to Sardar Hari Singh Ji and Mata Dharam Kaur Ji. While Giani ji’s ancestral village is Simbli is Nawanshahr, Punjab, his family lived in Sargodha during his early years. Giani Ji’s parents were puran Gursikhs who taught him Gurbani, Sikh living, and Nitnem at a young age.

Still very young, Giani Ji experienced a great loss in his family. While he was still in primary school, his father unexpectedly passed away. Just a couple of years later, while he was enrolled into the prestigious King George’s Royal Indian Military School in Jalandhar, his mother and elder brother passed away as well.

During some time-off from the military academy Giani Ji met Bhai Ishar Singh, a Naam-Abhyaasi Singh at his native village and decided to leave worldly education and follow the divine path of Sikhi full-time and decide to become an Amritdhari Sikh.

Giani Ji initially began to study Indian religious literature with the guidance of Giani Khem Singh Ji and Giani Hardit Singh Ji but was later told that if he wanted to learn and understand Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s Bani in depth he should visit Sant Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji Bhinderanwale at Gurdwara Akhand Parkash Sahib located in Moga.

Diwan of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji arranged by Bhindra Sampardai in early days

In 1938 he became a student of Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji and spent five years studying Gurbani inscribed in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Dasam Granth Sahib, along with santhyia of Vaaran Bhai Gurdas Ji, Bhai Nand Lal Ji, Sri Guru Nanak Parkash, GurPartap Suraj, Sri Guru Panth Parkash, Gur Bilas Patshahi:6 and P:10.

In 1944 Giani ji began the study of Vedant, Nyay-Pingal, and Vedic scriptures from various Gianis in Amritsar. He also received training in gatka and shastar vidya from Sant Daleep Singh of Amritsar during his stay there.

NAAM-ABHYAAS KAMAI

After partaking religious education, Giani Ji’s yearning for immersing into the Divine reached a pinnacle as he spent several years doing Naam-Abhyaas in solitude at various locations across Ropar, the adjoining hills near Sri Paonta Sahib, and then at Sri Hazur Sahib, Nanded and Gurdwara Mata Sahib Devan Ji on the banks Godavri river.

In the 1950s after partaking in immense bhagtee, and imbued with the blessings of Naam, Giani Ji returned to Bhinder-Kalan to partake in seva and parchar for two decades under the guidance of Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji Bhinderanwale and his Jatha.

Furthermore he would lead the organization for another 50 years and continue the parchar of Sikhi his predecessors had entrusted to him.

HEAD OF BHINDRAN SAMPARDAI

In the summer of 1969, Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji Bhindranwale did Akal Chalana due to an illness. On July 8th of that same summer, Giani Mohan Singh Ji was declared the head of Bhindran-wala Jatha (Sampardai) in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Giani Ji was bestowed honorary Dastars and Siropas from Sant Inder Singh Ji Bhindranwale (brother of Sant Sundar Singh Bhindranwale), Bhai Kartar Singh and Bhagwan Singh (elder and younger sons respectively, of Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji), Sant Niranjan Singh Patiala, Baba Fateh Singh (Shiromani Akali Dal), Pandit Sucha Singh (Sri Mahant Nirmal Panchayiti), Sant Chanan Singh (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee), Gurnam Singh (Mukh Mantri Punjab), Sant Ajaib Singh Boparai, Sant Narain Singh Ladhaikay, Sant Ujagar Singh, Sant Narain Singh Kaleranwale, Sant Kundan Singh Kaleranwale, Sant Miha Singh Siarrhwale, and representatives of Baba Ishar Singh Rarewale, Sant Jwala Singh Harkhowal, Sant Kaharpuri and many other esteemed personalities of the Panth.

Around the same time Sant Giani Kartar Singh Ji was also declared to be the head of the Bhindranwale Samperdai in parallel from Mehta Chowk, Amritsar and bestowed Dastars and Siropaos from various Panthic organizations and personalities. The Mehta Chowk organization, later headed by Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale, refers to itself as “Damdami Taksal (Jatha Bhindran Mehta).”

RECLUSIVE DIVINE SOUL

Throughout his life Giani Mohan Singh Ji had mostly stayed away from the public limelight and spent most of his time doing bhajan-bandagee and parchar behind the scenes. He was not comfortable in promoting himself or his sampardai, and despised intermingling with politicians. This set him apart from most other parcharaks and babas.

Giani Ji would never personally meet or receive politicians and local leaders during their visits to Gurdwara Akhand Prakash. He routinely preached to the congregation to only follow Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji only and not any personality or leader. In order to avoid attention, Giani Ji would keep himself at a distance from the crowds and instead concentrate on Naam simran and Gurbani abhyaas in solitude and rarely mingled in public.

SHUNNING OF POLITICIANS

Several years ago, Akali Dal supremo Parkash S. Badal, the former Chief Minister of Punjab, came to meet Giani Ji at Gurdwara Akhand Prakash and seek his blessings. Giani Ji politely declined to meet Badal and instead instructed sevadars to tell him that he should seek blessings from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and partake in langar during his visits here, and declined to greet and meet the former CM. The perplexed Badal waited for quite a bit of time only to find out that Giani Ji was unwilling to meet him or any other politician.

Humiliated and ignored the senior Badal, who normally had dozens of Babas across Punjab clamoring for his attention, never returned to Gurdwara Akhand Prakash again. Such was the character and determination of Giani Mohan Singh Ji.

Despite his reserved demeanor Giani was quite strict about the on goings at the Bhindran Jatha headquarters. Small talk or idle loitering by youth or the women folk was highly discouraged within the Gurdwara precincts – violators were simply asked to oblige and either recite Gurbani or Naam-Simran or leave the premises.

During his monthly Katha and Gurbani exegesis, he would routinely remind the sangat to follow Guru Granth Sahib Ji, remain steadfast to Rehit, and recite Gurbani, and reminded them that the Chardi-Kala of the Panth would only occur when Sikhs began to follow the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in practice and spirit and not by superficial political efforts.

The Sikh Panth needs more GurSikh jewels like Giani Mohan Singh Ji Bhinder Kalan, whose humble manner and unique style of parchar affected thousands of lives across Punjab and beyond. Giani Ji never promoted his own personality or his organization as it is commonly done now days in many deras. His emphasis was always to link the congregation and sangat to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and never to himself.

Thousands of mourners ranging from local sangat to Panthic organizations came to honor Giani Mohan Singh Ji and attended the antim saskar of his mortal body at Gurdwara Akhand Prakash where he had spent close to seven decades in service of the Khalsa Panth.

Satnam Education Trust Leader Refuses to Handover Saroops and Printing Equipment to Sangat – Backroom Deal with SGPC and the Jathedars Suspected

Number of Saroops Printed now revealed to be at least 62

The Canadian businessman Ripudaman Malik, the director of the Satnam Education Trust, is again in the center of another desecration controversy and facing the wrath of Panthic organizations.

In a letter sent to the ‘Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee’ (SGPC) by the ‘British Columbia Gurdwara Council’, ‘Ontario Gurdwaras Committee’, and the ‘Ontario Sikh Gurdwara Council’, the three Gurdwara umbrella group representing dozens of Gurdwara Sahibs across Canada alleged that Malik and his associate Balwant S. Pandher have set up a private printing operation at Mr. Pandher’s residence in which they have successfully printed several saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji without any consultation or authorization from the SGPC or local Sangat.

It should be noted that on April 9th, 1998, Jathedar Singh Sahib Bhai Ranjit Singh Ji issued a HukamNama (edict) from Sri Akal Takht Sahib forbidding the printing of Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji by any private parties – except by the SGPC and the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC).

The letter from the Sikh organizations states that Malik and Pandher violated the HukamaNama from Sri Akal Takht Sahib and challenged its authority.

DEADLINE GIVEN TO MALIK & PANDHER PASSES

In the letter, the Sikh organizations also issued a deadline to Malik and Pandher to turn over all the printed Saroops along with the printing equipment to Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara Surrey by 4pm Saturday August 22nd, 2020.

As of Sunday August 23rd, none of the Saroops or the printing equipment was turned over as requested. In the afternoon on Sunday, a large gathering of Sangat led by five Singhs approached Malik at Khalsa School and requested the handover of the Saroops. Arrogantly and defiantly Malik stated that he would neither turn over any of the Saroops nor any printing equipment to the Sangat.

According to eyewitnesses, Malik complained that he wanted to pick the five Singhs of his choice, otherwise he will not meet with them. Inevitably, the Sangat and the five Singhs left empty handed from the premises. During this squabble it was discovered that over 55 Saroops had been printed on the printing press and not 15 of 20 as Malik states in his earlier video.

LONG HISTORY OF DISREGARDING SRI AKAL TAKHT SAHIB’S AUTHORITY

This is not the first time the Maliks and their associates have found themselves in such controversy, they have a long track record of being involved in situations by flouting Panthic norms and hurting the sentiments of the Sikh community.

They include:

Inside the bus, the 400 plus sacred highly packed sacred saroops are disheveled and loaded from the ground up to the ceiling.

(1) In November of 2014, over 400 Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji were transported from India on an unaccompanied passenger bus loaded onto a container ship that finally docked at a port in Vancouver months later. The bus, which had been damaged, was left at the port along with all the 400 plus saroops inside for several days until clearance was given from the custom authorities. Again, this was a clear violation of Sri Akal Takht Sahib’s orders forbidding the transportation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s Saroops via container ships. Manjit GK (ex-DSGMC chief and Akali Dal Badal official) was also involved in this fiasco.

At that time Malik arrogantly contended that no beadbi was committed by him when bringing these saroops.

The Damaged Bus carrying the 400 plus Saroops in 2014

Beadbi of Saroops: Outrage Against Malik and Satnam Education Society

(2) In April of 2014, over 100 Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji were being surreptitiously shipped in a shipping container by the DSGMC to the Satnam Education Trust operated by Malik. This container was discovered by the local Sangat and the saroops were unloaded from the container and returned to Gurdwara Sri Rakabganj Sahib in Delhi. No action was taken against Malik or the DSGMC at that time, even though the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib was well aware of the situation.

These Saroops are part of the numerous copies printed in China on the behest of a California resident named Thaminder Anand.

Anand has been advertising the “free” distribution of Saroops since at least 2012 on his online website Sikhlink.com. However, in 2016, he began to advertise the Chinese printed saroops. On his site he claims to have the authority to even ship the saroops via mail/parcel.

Thaminder Anand is misleading the sangat by quoting an archaic decision made during the British India Raj in 1944 on his website Sikhlink.com. Sri Akal Takht Sahib clearly forbids the shipping of Saroops in any way via ship, container or parcel.

The Chinese printed saroops have been shipped shrink wrapped in clear plastic like commercial products being sold in the market, which is highly objectionable and disrespectful.

In 2015 the SGPC had filed a case against Anand and sikhlink.com under Section 295-A of the India Penal Code (Deliberate and malicious act, intended to outrage religious sentiments of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs).

In reply, he appealed to the High Court and stated “There is no law or clause under the Sikh Gurdwara Act which prohibits the publication and distribution of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. The sole right to print conferred upon the SGPC is self-created right under its own code of conduct. Self-created right has no force of law.”

When Gurdeep Malik was asked about how maryada and satkar was kept when these saroops were printed in China, his reply was that satkar starts when you take the saroops home, we cannot vouch for anything before that.

No one knows how these Saroops, which could possibly number into the hundreds, were printed in Chinese factories, and how they were handled by the workers, and what was done to any Angs that were damaged or misprinted during the process.

Again, no action has been taken by Sri Akal Takht Sahib against Anand or Gurdeep Malik for publishing and distributing the Chinese printed Saroops.

(4) In 2007, the Satnam Education Trust, operated by Malik ordered over 100 Saroops from the DSGMC via a shipping container. The shipping container, filled with over 100 Saroops and commercial textile products, was discovered and confiscated by the Sangat. Sadly, no action was taken against Malik or the DSGMC at that time either.

In the above three cases, by attempting to send the sacred Saroops at least twice in containers and then a bus via a container ship, the DSGMC, the SGPC and Malik tried to circumvent Sri Akal Takht Sahib’s edicts, Panthic Maryada and disobey the wishes of the Sangat that has vigorously opposed the shipping of sacred Saroops of Guru Sahib like commercial commodity. Yet, not a single step has been taken against anyone despite these repeated violations.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITIES – 2019 VISIT TO INDIA

Despite being charged in the Air-India bombing case in Canada, Prime Minister Narendera Modi in 2019 raised eyebrows when he removed Ripudaman Malik from India’s purported “black-list” and allowed him to visit India on an official visa.

During that surprising visit Malik appeared on an Indian Talk show with his brother Harjit Malik who shamelessly praised and thanked the Indian prime minister, and the Indian Research Analysis Wing (RAW) Chief Samant Goyal for removing his brother’s name from the “black-list”.

Full video of this conversation is below.

MALIK RELATIVE STATES 3 PREVIOUS VISITS TO INDIA

In a video released by one of Malik’s Canadian relatives, Kulbir Singh, he states that the “black-list” is just a sham, and claims that Malik has traveled to India at least three times before his 2019 visit. He states that Malik has been to India in 1982, 1991, and then in 1995 when he met with individuals associated with the Ministry of External Affairs in the “south block” area of New Delhi, where he spent at least 30 minutes inside the Indian ministry.

In 2014, Manjit GK, the controversial Delhi based leader of the Akali Dal (Badal) and DSGMC president, was invited by the Satnam Trust as a “special guest” during the opening of Khalsa Secondary School in Surrey. GK’s visit raked up criticism from various Sikh organizations across British Columbia, due to his close alignment with the anti-Panthic Badal family, and his involvement in the transportation of the 400 plus sacred saroops via a container ship in the same year.

EDITOR’S NOTE AND CONCLUSION

For the last 13 years, there have been repeated attempts by the Malik family and their associates in flouting the edicts of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and the wishes of the general Sikh sangat, and they have been caught red-handed committing sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s saroops on multiple occasions.

They have repeatedly undermined the authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, and hurt the sentiments of the Sikh Panth. For far too long the leadership at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, and Panthic organizations have looked the other way each time these individuals committed these sacrileges.

The latest episode of printing Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s Saroops at a private Surrey, BC residence in violation of the 1998 HukamaNama from Sri Akal Takht Sahib should be the final straw for the Panthic authorities to initiate strict action against all these individuals – namely, Ripudaman Malik, Pandher, and Gurdeep Malik and Anand so such acts are never committed by anyone again.

Since 1978, the Sikh Panth has faced an onslaught of attacks from external forces such as the neo-Nirankaris, Ram-Rahim cultists, and others. From that time Sikh organizations such as the Akhand Kirtani Jatha and Damdami Taksal played a leading role in standing up against those who were committing beadbi and challenged Panthic authority.

Sadly the leadership of both of these organizations have now become irrelevant, ineffectual, and are often seen siding with those who themselves are guilty of beadbi.

The Dhumma led Damdami Taksal’s open embrace of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), and AKJ-BC’s complex and implicit connections, and inter-dependence with the Maliks and Satnam Education Trust cannot be ignored.

Such alliances should not be forgotten or forgiven by the Panth. It is high time for the Sikh Panth to dissociate themselves not only from those who commit sacrilege of the sacred Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and undermine Sri Akal Takht Sahib Ji’s authority, but also from those who enable and provide legitimacy to these types of individuals and forces.

The Sangat should be aware that the Maliks and the Satnam Education Trust will use their deep pockets to influence the local Gurdwara committees, the Jathedars in Punjab, and shed crocodile tears of repentance and remorse so they can continue to denigrate our institutions and Takhts.

The material presented below is a collections of anti-Panthic statements by Harpreet Singh Gill on internet forums (message boards), FaceBook pages, WhatsApp, and in e-mail message groups.

It should be noted that in 2008, Sri Akal Takhat Sahib had declared Sri Dasam Granth is an inseparable part (“ang”) of the Sikh panth, and asked the sangat to desist from any critical controversy.

In 2006 Sri Akal Takhat officially stated that those speaking against Sri Dasam Granth are ‘Shararti Ansar’ (mischievous miscreants).

INDORE, MP (SNN) – The Sikhs in the central Indian city of Indore were stunned when one of their beloved Gurdwara Sahibs was reduced to rubble by the city authorities under the guise of “beautician” and “development.”

Gurdwara Sahib Kartar Kirtan was demolished within hours by the Indore Nagar Nigam (municipal corporation), who used police authority to forcibly vacate the entire Gurdwara building, and demolish it using bulldozers and excavator machinery. The local Sangat including men, women, and children, who were protesting the proposed demolition, were harassed and beaten by hundreds of police officials who were given the authority to vacate the complex by force.

Saroops, Manuscripts, and Rare Shashtars Missing

Several puratan Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Sri Dasam Granth Sahib ji, along with rare manuscripts and books, valuable antique Kirpans, cashboxes, a secure safe with more than 300 thousand rupees in cash was taken away by the authorities after the Sangat was removed from the premises to an unknown location and without any consultation with the Sangat or Gurdwara authorities.

Police Enter Premises with Shoes – Sangat Manhandled

According to long time Indore resident, Bhai Ratinder Singh (Sr. Editor Panthic.org), Indore Municipal Corporation brought in hired thugs along with the local police who entered the sacred Gurdwara premises in shoes and forcibly stopped the recitation of Kirtan and divan proceedings, and began to manhandle and evict the men, women, and children from the complex.

Sikh community leaders stated that the local municipal corporation along with Indore Mayor, Malini Gaud, who were spear-heading the “beautician” project had assured that the city would work with the Sikh community in working out a relocation the Gurdwara complex in compliance with the project but the Sikh congregation was shocked by the high-handed approach taken by the authorities when the Gurdwara complex was forcibly desecrated and demolished without any warning or planning.

INDORE, MP (SNN) – Sikh organizations in Indore stated that prominent Sikh intellectual and writer, Bhai Ratinder Singh, who spent many years languishing in Indian prisons under fabricated cases, and is legally blind, was falsely accused of supporting and sympathizing with various so-called anti-national and anti-social elements by one of the regional newspapers in Indore.

The ‘Sanjha LokSwami’, a Madhya Pardes daily, published a sensational multi-page article, attempting to link Bhai Ratinder Singh to Punjab gangster Neeta (Kulpreet) Deol, who was recently arrested in the city of Indore, referring to Neeta as a ‘Khalistani Terrorist’.

Neeta was one of the escapees of the November 27th, 2016 Nabha Jailbreak in which armed assailants freed six prisoners from the maximum security jail at Nabha, Punjab, including Sikh Nationalists Harminder Singh Mintoo-Nihang and Kashmir Singh Galwaddi.

The LokSwami provided no evidence or substantiation of any connections between Bhai Ratinder Singh and Neeta or any other individuals, yet the sensationalized headlines questioning a possible links was splashed across the front page of their paper. Representatives of local Sikh organizations, including Shahbaaz Khalsa, and Akhand Kirtani Jatha, criticized these unsubstantiated allegations and stated that Bhai Ratinder was being targeted by the corrupt hooligans that control the management of Gurdwara Sri Singh Sabha who have political sway in the region due to their connections with the Bhartya Janta Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), local politicians and police officers.

Bhai Ratinder Singh has been a vocal critic of this Gurdwara Management and their association with anti-Sikh elements such as the RSS. In January of 2017, during the 350th Parkash Purab Celebrations for Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji, once the the Gurdwara management was confronted about RSS’ involvement in the Gurpurab festivities, immediately threatened and intimidated the local Gursikhs, and filed false police cases against them. Several Singhs were held under police custody under false pretexts due to the management’s actions.

Local Sangat from Indore is reporting that the Sri Singh Sabha Indore Gurdwara Management is using local Police to harass and threaten Gursikhs that are protesting the unwarranted interference by the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) in the upcoming 350th Parkash Purab Celebrations for Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji.

Several Singhs who have protested the RSS interference and their collusion with the Gurdwara management have been detained and harassed by the Indore Police.

According to local sevadars, the prime instigators of this episode include Manjit Singh Bhatia (President of Indore Singh Sabha and leader of the regional liquor mafia), and his associates Charanbeer Singh, Jaswant Singh Giani who have threatened and intimidated the Gursikhs by filing false police cases against them and having them held under police custody under false pretexts.

It may be noted that these individuals also attempted similar tactics during the 300the annual Vaisakhi celebrations in 1999, and are misusing Gurdwara Sri Singh Sabha Indore property to entertain anti-Sikh outfits such as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

Below is the statement of details from the local Indore sewadars from Shahbaz Khalsa, GURSIKH, and Akhand Kirtani Jatha (Madhya Pardes) in regards to these individuals:

Representatives of Sikh organizations across North America and Europe strongly condemned the blasphemous acts committed by the followers of excommunicated heretic Ragi Darshan Sinh at the Gurdwara Sikh Sangat of Virginia who altered the sacred 'Khanday-ki-Pahul' ceremony and Ardaas.

TORONTO, CANADA – Representatives of Sikh organizations across North America and Europe strongly condemned the blasphemous acts committed by the followers of excommunicated heretic Ragi Darshan Sinh at the Gurdwara Sikh Sangat of Virginia who altered the sacred ‘Khanday-ki-Pahul’ ceremony and Ardaas.

The event organized on April 15th of 2016 by Gurdwara Granthi Kuldeep Singhs and progated by Ragi Darshan Sinh’s heretic lobby did not recite the sacred verses of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Bani in the ceremony as mandated by Panthic Maryada and the removal of the words ‘Pritham Bhagauti’ from the Sikh Ardas.

Condemnation by Canadian Gurdwaras

Representatives of the Ontario Gurdwara Committee, Ontario Sikh and Gurdwara Council, BC (British Columbia) Gurdwara Council and main Panthic organizations from the Toronto jointly condemned any alteration of the Khanday-Ki-Pahul / Amrit Sanchar ceremony as outlined in the Sikh Rehat Maryada and warned unscrupulous elements to cease and desist from taking such steps in the future and stated that they would not allow such acts to be committed at any of their gurdwara sahibs.

In a joint press release, issued from Gurdwara Sahib Malton, Mississauga, Canada, the Sikh organizations took serious notice of the objectionable propaganda being posted on social media by the so-called “Guru Granth Sahib Academy” of Ragi Darshan Sinh in support of blasphemy and warned no organization or individual has the right to alter the Sikh Rehat Maryda and Panthic traditions.

During the annual Nagar Kirtan procession in Malton, the resolution condemning the acts of heretic Ragi Darshan Sinh and his followers were read by a spokesperson for Ontario Gurdwara Committee, in the presence of tens of thousands of sangat members who endorsed the resolution in masse.

Background

According media reports and postings, on April 15th Kuldeep Singh, the granthi of Gurdwara Sikh Sangat of Virginia, also known as Sikh Mission of America (SMA), in Chantilly, Virginia, organized a mock Khand-Ki-Phul / Amrit Sanchar ceremony as verses from the first 13 Angs from Sri Granth Sahib Ji were read instead of the mandated recitation Sri Jap Ji Sahib, Jaap Sahib, Twa-Parsad Swaiyay, Chaupai Sahib, and Anand Sahib as instructed in the Sikh Rehat Maryada. Purposely the sacred Banis of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Jaap Sahib, Twa-Parsad Swaiyay, Chaupai Sahib were excluded, directly challenging the 317 year-old Sikh Maryada established by Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji on the historical Vaisakhi of 1699.

Condemnation by Federation of Sikh Organizations UK

Leading organizations in England under the banner of Federation of Sikh Organizations (UK) also denounced the blasphemous act committed by Ragi Darshan Sinh?s followers in Chantilly, Virginia, and declared that heretics such as Ragi Darshan Sinh, Gurbakhsh Sinh Kala-Afghana, Inder Sinh Ghagga, Harjinder Sinh Dilgeer will not be allowed to venture into Panthic events or institutions in the UK.

The stance by the UK?s Federation of Sikh Organizations is in many ways unexpected since in the past some of their key members and organizers have had cozy relations with many of these very heretics, and on many occasions aligned themselves with those who openly question the validity of Sri Dasam Granth Sahib.

Condemnation by Khalistan Affairs Center

Dr. Amarjit Singh of Khalistan Affairs Center, who in the past has purposely avoided entering such controversies, also vociferously condemned the April 15th event organized in Chantilly, Virginia. In his weekly television show on TV84, he criticized the granthi Kuldeep Sinh for undermining the Sikh Rehit Maryada and compared him with the likes of the anti-Sikh ?Meenays?, ?Dheermalias?, ?Ram Rais? of the past.

Dr. Amarjit Singh stated that such modifications are not permissible or tolerable, and must be condemned in the strongest terms.

Condemnation by Various Parcharaks

Various Sikh Parcharaks, including Bhai Sahib Pinderpal Singh, Bhai Amrik Singh and many others have also condemned the unilateral alteration of the Amrit-Sanchar Maryada by any individuals or organizations.

On a side note, even the controversial missionary preacher Sarbjit S. Dhunda dissociated himself from the blasphemous actions but fell short of openly condemning or personally dissociating himself from the fringe elements responsible for the blasphemous acts.

Overall there has been disbelief, astonishment, and strong opposition from the general Sikh community over the news of the transgression by the heretic lobby which may now face the wrath of the Sikh organizations and sangat at large.

CHABBA, PUNJAB (SNN) – In the presence of a massive Sikh conclave, members of United Akali Dal, Akali Dal Amritsar, and their supporters announced that they were replacing the current Jathedars of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, and Sri Keshgarh Sahib with their own representatives – Dhian Singh Mand, Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala, and Baljit Singh Daduwal, respectively. Bhai Dhian Singh Mand, a close associate of Simranjit Singh Mann, would serve on behalf of Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, the Babbar Khalsa activist who is serving life in prison at Tihar Jail.

The number of individuals present vary from one hundred thousand to severalÿhundred thousand depending on the source. Despite the varying estimates, the entire arena had overflowed beyond the capacity of the erected structures.

The conclave, which was dubbed as being a ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ by the organizers was tightly controlled by associates of Simranjit Singh Mann, and ex-Damdami Taksal spokesman, Mohkan Singh, and had already prepared the resolutions in advance and pre-selected the names of the new “Jathedars that were to be announced.

SECRETIVE PROCEEDINGS

Over the past few days many representatives of other organizations had complained about the lack of transparency and structure in formulating the resolutions and selection of ‘Jathedars.’ The actual resolutions and names of individuals to be announced were kept confidential by the organizers and not shared publicly until the last minute. This type of clandestine behavior by the organizers had infuriated many of the attendees who saw this as an once in a lifetime opportunity for the Sikh community to retake control of its destiny , but their objections were either ignored or dismissed.

SUSPICIOUS PAST OF CONTROLLERS

Mohkam Singh, along with former Khalistan Commando Force chief, and Panthic Committee member Wassam Singh Zafarwal, and Gurnam Singh Bandala, are all considered individuals with a questionable past, and are referred by many as police intelligence “cats” for their suspicious roles during the Sikh insurgency during the 1980’s and 1990’s when thousands of Sikh youths were murdered and eliminated, while these leaders ‘miraculously’ not only survived but become quite successful politicians in various Sikh circles despite their “criminal” past. ÿ

Interestingly, one of the Gurmattas declared during the last 1987 Sarbat Khalsa, stated that all ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ functions could only be held at Sri Akal Takht Sahib and not elsewhere, yet this Gurmatta was now openly flouted by Mohkam Singh and his associates who were also present in the 1987 Sarbat Khalsa.

RESOLUTIONS

Along with the announcement of the replacement “Jathedars”, the following resolutions were read to the massive audience in attendance:

Former Punjab DGP, KP Gill and Indian Army GeneralKuldip S Brar have been deemed “tankhaeey” (apostates) for their role in Sikh Genocide, and have been asked to present themselves at Sri Akal Takht Sahib by the end of this month.

The titles “Faqr-E-Qaum”ÿ and “Panth Ratan” are being revoked from Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Badal, and SGPC President Avtar Makkar.

An International Sikh Parliament will be created.

Denouncement of the desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and and punishment should be carried out to those who commit any beadbi.

Call given to free all political prisoners from Punjab and other freedom struggles within India.

Call for creation of an Independent Sikh calendar.

Make Sri Amritsar Sahib Sovereign like the Vatican City.

End caste divisions within the Sikhs.

NO DIRECT ACTION AGAINST BADAL FAMILY MEMBERS OR SIRSA CULT

Ironically no tankhah or punishment was announced to Parkash or Sukhbir Badal, or the Sirsa cultists who are behind some of the most disturbing incidents of sacrilege in Punjab and Haryana.

ABSENCE FROM CONCLAVE

Several Sikh Personalities, including Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh Ji, Missionary preacher Panthpreet Singh, and Ranjit Singh Dhadhrian, who had been very active in the past few weeks were conspicuously absent from the conclave, while other representatives such as Panch Pardhani, and Dal Khalsa members, Kanwarpal Singh and Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu stayed in the shadows as mere observers and did not share the dais with organizers.

Sikh parcharak, Bhai Baldeep Singh, who had offered to collaborate with the organizers, shared the following concerns about the process:

“Is lack of values such as ethics, procedure, protocol, inclusive (sic), integrity, vision, honesty, transparency, accountability, sarb-sammati, along with pushing one’s own agenda(s), etc., the name of Sarbat Khalsa? I think not!”

“In the garb of claims to restore honour and dignity of Gur-Sikh Panth’s ailing institutions such as Akal Takhat, SGPC and DSGMC, we cannot dishonour the institution of Sarbat Khalsa outright!”

POINTS OF CONTENTION AND CONTROVERSY

Takht Patna Sahib Jathedar was ‘sacked’, but no replacement was announced – what was the reason for this?

If hundreds of Sikh organizations and representatives participated in the conclave, how many of them were allowed to deliberate and discuss the resolutions that were announced?

How many Sikh organizations were allowed input over the ‘selection’ of the new Jathedars?

Why was this process limited to only a handful of individuals and not shared or discussed with the Panth?

Why weren’t the norms and traditions of Sarbat Khalsa followed during this conclave?

The stage was controlled by individuals who were unprofessional and dis-courteous individuals, what process was involved in choosing them?

Why didn’t the organizers allow any input or dissent from the public or attendees?

Rupinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh, the two Sikh brothers who were falsely implicated in the Bargari desecration case, and released, accused the Punjab Police of severe torture and harassment during their confinement.

MOGA, PUNJAB (SNN) – Rupinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh, the two Sikh brothers who were falsely implicated in the Bargari desecration case, and released, accused the Punjab Police of severe torture and harassment during their confinement.

Speaking to media in the presence of hundreds of supporters and well-wishers, at their native village of Punjgrain Khurd village in Moga, the brothers shared details about how the police tried to force them to accept admission of guilt for the desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s saroop in Bargari.

Third-Degree Torture and Beadbi of Kes

They were arrested on October 17th and were kept in illegal custody in Faridkot and Moga by the Mehna police and CIA staff for three days where they inhumanely tortured and harassed. Two other individuals, Gurlal Sigh and Amandeep Singh were also interrogated and mistreated by authorities during the same time.

The brothers stated that they were also offered money and jobs if they would admit to the crimes of desecration, but they refused to succumb to the pressure even after they were physically tortured and humiliated by the police and CIA staff. This included beatings, intimidation, and physically pulling their legs apart to cause severe pain and muscle damage.

They stated their kakkars, including Kirpan and Kacherra, were removed by the Police, and the police committed beadbi of their kes (hair) by hitting them with their shoes. Touching a Sikh’s kes with shoes is considered an intolerable offence. The police also tried to have them consume tobacco which is considered a cardinal offence in Sikhism.

Sikh leaders are demanding strict legal action against the police officers guilty of committing these offences against these Sikh detainees.

Protests and Marches

The Sikh community, still simmering with resentment against the inaction by the Police and the State authorities, continued to hold protest marches throughout Punjab and other states as thousands of Sikhs lined up on roads and highways across the region demanding the arrest and prosecution of those who were responsible of the beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s saroops, and the killing of the two Sikh protestors in Faridkot.

In Amritsar, scored of protestors dumped black flags on the front door of the ex-Jathedar Gurbachan Singh’s official residence and shouted slogans against him. Gurbachan Singh has not been in hiding since he and four other granthis issued a ‘pardon’ for the Sirsa cultist Gurmeet Ram Raheem.
